What am I working on now?

By Coach Chris

Inspired by Derek Sivers talking about his idea of a 'Now Page,’ I thought it would be fun to let you know what I am up to right now…

Well, that all escalated a bit quick didn’t it… Life has changed a lot since I last updated this, for most of us! Here’s what I’m up to…

Corona Reading: I’m always fascinated by what people are reading, so here’s a few books that I have read over the past few months in Australia…

  • The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

  • What I know For Sure - Oprah Winfrey

  • Stillness is the Key - Ryan Holiday

  • Atomic Habits - James Clear

  • Around the World in 80 days - Jules Verne

  • The Third Door - Alex Banayan

Challenges I’m thinking about: Somehow, Michael Harvey has enabled me to swim over the past few years of working together, and I’ve actually been doing a fair bit of open water swimming over the past 5 weeks. I really fancy a challenge that integrates swim and run. There’s a few ideas brewing that involve the wonderful Australian ocean pools once they are open again…

Charity Coaching: Coach Kylie and I recently helped the Jean Hailes For Women Foundation to prepare for their Melbourne Marathon Campaign.  Runners took part in the 5km, 10km or half marathon runs and we wrote the coaching materials and organised coaching sessions to help them prepare.  We also did a useful interview and summary of the whole thing which you can see below…

Momentum Endurance Coaching: At the beginning of the year I became one of the 3 Directors who are leading the charge at Momentum Endurance Coaching. Alongside running, triathlon is my passion and it’s been amazing to work with my good friends and fellow coaches, Michael Harvey and Sam Janssen. In particular we have developed an online coaching approach for kids to help keep them active over this strange period of the coronavirus pandemic.

Get into Running - Online Learning for Runners:  I  been convinced for ages that I can add something useful to help runners through online learning.  Im not going to lie, I have struggled to articulate this but I think the idea is coming together now. I would love to chat to other people who are interested in this idea… We are particularly looking at those people who are trying to ‘Get into Running.’

Being Coached: Yes… I am still getting coached myself. Obviously all the races have gone out of the window, but having that extra accountability and voice of reason is always useful. At the moment, I am just focusing on keeping things fun and consistent, with a bit more flexibility for a few adventures.

Partnerships: Again, something I’ve always been a fan of is working with other people. Particularly good people, with good values, who do a good job. We have been teaming up with the guys at Up and Running Podiatry more and more recently and now there is a formal partnership, where GoRun coaches can help patients manage their journey back to running, with the assistance of the podiatrists. I am really excited about this! I see this period of ‘getting back into it’ go wrong so many times and its going to be a new challenge to try and break the boom and bust cycle that so many runners go through.
